Cataloging of library materials and the maintenance of the database of member library holdings accessible via the shared online catalog operated by ALIS.

Back-up reference service when the librarians in member libraries are unable to answer questions with local resources via a contract with the East Meadow Library. Central Library funds, a component of state aid to public library systems, are used to support such things as online database subscriptions and the acquisition of e-books available for use in all member libraries as well as to support Live Librarian (after hours interactive reference service via the Internet).

Hosting of member library web pages. Maintenance of an NLS web site with various specialty pages to which member libraries may link.

Coordination of summer reading programs for children and teens. Annual Children's Literature Festival for librarians and educators. Annual Performer's Showcase for children's programs. Lists of recommended age-appropriate materials for children and teens.

Facilitation of outreach services for state-specified target populations - the aged, persons with disabilities, the educationally disadvantaged, members of ethnic & minority groups in need of special library services, and those confined in institutions.
