Policy

The Live Librarian service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (certain holidays excluded). The service is designed to answer basic reference questions.

Users of Live Librarian will be in a private one-on-one chat with a Reference Librarian.

Reference Librarians will answer basic reference questions using a variety of online subscription products and the internet. The Librarians will also provide assistance searching the internet. Answers to questions or web addresses will be provided via the chat interface. There may be situations where the Live Librarian refers the user to their home library because the question requires more in-depth research tools than are available online.

The Live Librarian Reference Librarians do not provide computer technical support.

Live Librarian users are asked to provide their e-mail address and name and select their home library. The e-mail address will only be used to forward a copy of the chat transcript. The user's e-mail address will not be maintained on file or used for any other purpose.

The Live Librarian Reference Librarians cannot provide legal, medical or tax advice.

The Live Librarian chat software may place a "cookie" in the browser files of a user's computer. The cookie itself does not contain any personally identifying information although it will enable the Live Librarian software to function optimally.
